Week 19:
The bump continues to get bigger! We are one week away from the halfway point... hard to believe!

Ultrasound day was great! This afternoon we had our ultrasound where the baby’s bones, organs, etc were all measured. It was very exciting to watch him / her for the 30 minutes while the technician took measurements. We were surprised at how much the baby moved- s/he turned, kicked, waved, yawned, and sucked its thumb! K still hasn’t felt the baby moving yet so it was a bit strange to see all of the action going on inside her belly!

The baby weighed 10 ounces and the heart rate was between 130 to 150 bpm. Everything appears well and normal and we are excited to share these most recent pictures with you!

Have a happy Memorial Day weekend!

Week 18: We are looking forward to our next ultrasound at the end of this week. Apparently the doctors will be doing a lot of looking at the "structure" of the baby. Stayed tuned as we will try to post some new pics from the ultrasound next week!

This is a picture of a very cute email from one of the sixth grade boys who lives on our hall and is one of K's Spanish students. This was nice to receive and I think its funny to see that he thinks I am "han(d)some"!

Happy Mother's Day!
Week 17 finds us well. K is getting bigger.
We want to send a special shout out to all the Mothers (and Mother's-to-be too) for carrying us around in their bellies for 9 months!
Much to the ridicule of people around us, K and I attended a 3 hour seminar on cloth diapering. Honestly, I was originally skeptical about there being 3 hours worth of of information on cloth diapers... but we were both floored at the amount of information that was provided! The speaker was the owner of Zannadu.com and online cloth diaper store, and she was extremely knowledgeable. She was able to share personal stories about the individual companies she carries, diapering traditions from countries around the world, and even went into how the length of the cotton fiber varies from plants grown in India or China. We were both really taken with the talk and now feel more excited and informed about using cloth diapers! Take a minute and check out the Zannadu website to see how far cloth diapers have come!

K and I have decided not to find out the gender of the baby. We have an ultrasound scheduled for the end of the month and, unless we can see whats what on the screen, we will not ask the doctor to tell us if it is a boy or girl.

This has been disappointing news for some family members who had hoped to be buying little blue or pink onesies... Though we have not committed to the gender-specific colors of blue and pink, we love the traditional gender-neutral colors of green, yellow, and camouflage.

Week 16 is here… It is hard to believe that four months have gone by! K continues to feel better and we have seen a marked increase in her appetite (the extra ice cream is for the baby!). We are also beginning to see the Linea Nigra (latin for dark line) on her belly. This is the dark line that begins to show during the second trimester that runs vertically down her belly. Apparently, scientists don’t fully understand this phenomenon but think that it is linked to increased levels of estrogen. On a side note, lots of people think the presence of this line is linked to the baby’s gender… though every source we have read refutes this claim!
